Surrendering Your Leonberger
Sometimes circumstances, such as a death in the family,
illness or financial hardship, dictate that you must make the painful decision
to surrender your dog. Although this
is often very difficult and heartbreaking, making this decision because it
serves the best interests of your dog is a compassionate and loving thing
to do.
Please rest assured that we at Leo Rescue Ontario will do our very
best to make sure that the new home we find for your dog is a very loving,
deserving one. To help us in that
endeavour we ask that everyone surrendering a dog to Leo Rescue Ontario complete a detailed
Surrender Form. It is designed not to be intrusive, but
rather to enable us to have as much information as possible so that we can
make the new owners aware of the dog’s needs and history. In addition to this form, please feel
free to provide us with as much detailed information on your dog as you
wish. What are his likes and
dislikes? Habits? Favourite toys? And any earlier photos that you would be
willing to share so that his new family can be reassured he came from a
loving home would be greatly appreciated.

Release Form. If you feel this is a
decision you are willing to make on your dog’s behalf, please fill it out
and return it to us by email, fax or mail.
Upon receipt, one of our Rescue Co-ordinators will contact you
to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure the surrender goes as
smoothly as possible for all concerned.
What if I change my mind after
surrendering my Leo?
Once
you have made the decision to surrender your dog to Leo
Rescue Ontario, if the dog has not already been re-homed,
your Leo may be returned to you provided you compensate Leo Rescue Ontario for all the costs
incurred while the dog was in our care.
The decision whether to return the dog to you will, of course, be at
the full discretion of Leo Rescue
Ontario. For this
reason, we strongly urge you make every effort possible to keep your dog in
the first place, in the event you think there is a chance you may want
him/her back.
